working perspective

I create a situation or environment which suggest the possibility of an action. These installations are brought to life with a performance. Connecting to the experience culture of today, I involve the viewer in my work. Because of this interaction the viewer becomes part of it all.
My work is socially engaged; from an ironic perspective I picture the society we try to live in. By offering alternatives on excisting situations, i criticise in a positive way.
And yet it's about small things, sentimental and interhuman aspects, to offer some resistance to the mtv and hollywood utopia's. I'm part of the system, being guilty of society as well, it's self critique.
It's the paradox that makes it interesting.

d.o.k.t.e.r. Mette spacekadette mission: "Timecapsule", trailer




Development and production of the television serie "D.o.k.t.e.r. Mette Spacekadettes Timecapsule" Commissioned by Woonstad Rotterdam 2010

A 4 episodes long television serie, researching history, present and future of the life of the inhabitants in a post-war neighbourhood Overschie (abtsweg) undergoing urban development.
D.o.k.t.e.r. Mette Spacekadette was send back in time on a mission by her spacedaddy (henri van zanten) to gather information for her timecapsule (made by reinier Kranendonk).
Each episode has it own subject; Changing Overschie, Politics, Leasure and the future of Overschie. Items within the program: portraits at home of the inhabitants, where they're asked to contribute an item to the timecapsule, streetinterviews about subjects and their future, and a wisdomlesson from the future by d.o.k.t.e.r. Mette. 

Many artists have  contributed to this project:Fashion designer Maartje Dijkstra created the suit of d.o.k.t.e.r. Mette Spacekadette, the Berlin band Trike made the intro song, Dutch singer/songwriter Fuckthewriter made the end song, animations were made by vj Sinan Seyhan, logo was designed by Polymessa, sculpture Reinier Kranendonk developped the Timecapsule, filming and editing was done by Alex van der Meer, Marieke Hollander, Sinan Seyhan and me.



D.o.k.t.e.r. Mette Spacekadette  is part of  “ArtprojectKleinpolder”, feauturing 3 projects in total by theatergroup Karavana,  Doris Denekamp and Geert van Mil.
